This gorgeous Boston boy has so many problems! Choco is a handsome chocolate colored 6 yr. old male whose owner surrendered to a shelter December 5th. His owner gave no records or medications, yet told them Choco has seizures and he could no longer afford to care for him. Choco was picked up by a transporter yesterday afternoon and since the vet's office had already closed, the plan was to overnight him at the home of a foster in the area until the vet's office opened today the 6th December.
A frantic call from the foster home was received by the rescue area coordinator around 7:00 PM that Choco was having multiple grand mal seizures one after the other, along with 3 smaller ones and wasn't returning to normal. With no history to work from, it was decided he needed to go to the Emergency Center for immediate care. They were able to stabilize him, but Choco had another seizure at 2:30 AM. The specialists recommended he be stabilized 24 hours prior to another transport, so it was agreed that he should stay overnight tonight so he could be safely transported to his new vet and foster home.
In addition to the seizures which will require specialized blood work to get medications to a therapeutic level. Choco also has a perennial hernia that needs to be surgically repaired, neutering is also required. At this point his medical bills are already almost $1000.00 and with the hernia repair and the tests needed to determine the seizure meds, his bills will easily escalate above $4000.
Your help is needed so we can pay for all of the medical assistance Choco so desperately needs.
December 9, 2013 Update:
Today, the 9th of December both the neurologist and the surgeon examined Choco. The neurologist is certain that the seizures were not epilepsy related, as Choco's pupils were not the same size. This condition usually indicates a lesion in his brain, which appears to be the case with Choco. Also, he has two masses in his colon (probably cancer) which have caused the pereieal hernia, and those masses have probably spread to Choco's brain, resulting in the seizures and neurological effects that were noted ( i.e. circling to the left, focalized pupils, excessive drooling, decreased reflexes.
With deep regret, the decision was made to euthanize him.
R I P, Choco
